Roller Skating Roller Skating has been around for years and enjoys various cycles of popularity. In the early 70's, there was a big growth in roller rinks around the country. In the Eastern Region, new rinks sprang up in Reading, Emaus, Allentown, Douglasville, Kimberton, Caln, Concordville, Lancaster, Line Lexington, Harrisburg, Carlisle, Quarryville, in Pa and Delanco, NJ. In the late 70's, after the Pan American games, Disco was popular and it came into the roller rinks as well. This made roller skating extremely poopular, especially when Cherr Bono got envolved with a rink in California. Newer rinks sprang up in Norristown, Blue Bell, Bethlehem, in Pa and Christiana and Dover, Del. Dozens of rinks sprang up in Jersey including Cherry Hill, Eschelon, and others. Most new rinks during the pre-disco era enjoyed popularity with organ music by Bill Clark, Ralph Brown, Marty Dumic, Nick Viscuso, Mike Mixon, and others. Rinks with Live organ music did especially well including Douglasville, Kimberton, Spinning Wheels, Hagy's, Holiday, and Caln. Disco changed roller skating.
