Computer Monitors are VGA or SVGA on any new computer. Display controllers and monitors must be compatible. You can not put a new monitor on an older monochrome system. CGA, EGA, and VGA are not compatible with each other. Mono, CGA, and EGA are digital signal lines while VGA uses analog signals between the card and monitor. That is the main reason the connectors are different. In addition, VGA scan frequencies are usually different too. High quality VGA monitors have a dot pitch of .28 or lower and are capable of 1024 by 768 line resolution. Better monitors also are capable of non-interlaced operation on the 1024 mode. Monitors also have different waranties too. The better monitors usually have 2 or 3 year warranties rather than 1 year. You should be aware that to collect on the warranty, the warranty depot must receive the monitor back in its original box and packing. Save the box!
